Webb19 jan. 2012 · On our Bonneville engine last year we used some used stock pistons and we just soaked the pistons in Super Clean and 10% water. Water activates the cleaner. Bought at Wally World about $9 per gallon. Just keep an eye on them because if you leave them in too long it will attack the coating that is on most pistons from the manufacturer. Failure to do so can damage the outer rings. I think almost any decent solvent works for cleaning the gas cylinder. I sometimes use paint thinner or gasoline -- both work fine. During the overhaul, the grooves have to be properly cleaned off carbon deposits and checked for damage in the ring grooves.

You can get them at any home supply place for a couple of dollars each.
